The Dental Implant Restoration Procedure
The procedure for your dental implant restoration depends on the number of implants required. Vital Dental can perform your implant restoration. Because each of us is incredibly unique, your restoration procedure must be carefully planned and customized before treatment is initiated.
The implant restoration process can take two or three appointments. The length of time required for your implant restoration will vary on you and the number of required implants. It also depends on whether other teeth need to be extracted before the implants can be placed. A single tooth implant may require at least one or two hours to complete.
After thorough examinations and x-rays confirm the implant possibility, we will administer a local anesthetic to numb the immediate area. We proceed with a small incision allowing us to drill a small hole in the jawbone into which we insert the titanium post.
The function of this implant is to serve as the tooth root. We place the implant in the space that contains the missing tooth and can be placed in either the upper or the lower jawbone. A period of several months is required for the implant to integrate or fuse itself into the bone.*
When we determine that the titanium implant has adhered itself to the bone, it is now time to attach an extension or abutment to the post to reach the surface of the gum. At this point it is time to place your custom fabricated artificial crown. Designed at a dental lab it has been made to match your natural teeth with color, size, and shape.
The artificial crown is placed on the abutment or extension with either cement or it can be screwed in place with a special dental too.
With that your natural smile has been restored. The titanium root provides you biting and chewing pressure sensations as well as hot and cold temperature changes. It is very much like a natural tooth.
*We do not perform the actual procedure, however, the team & Dr. Randall do perform the before and after care and crown. The dental implant procedure is performed at one of our surgical offices (fishers or meridian office) and post procedure and final treatment phase are performed in our office.
