Dental Bonding
Fishers, IN

Dental bonding is a quite common, easy, and popular treatment option for you if you have gaps between your teeth, cracked teeth, chips in your teeth, decaying teeth or even if you have exposed roots caused by other dental conditions.

Dental bonding is a quite common, easy, and popular treatment option for you if you have gaps between your teeth, cracked teeth, chips in your teeth, decaying teeth or even if you have exposed roots caused by other dental conditions. The dental bonding is made from a composite resin material that is strong and can be sculpted and molded to look and feel just like your real teeth. It is not a dental appliance like a bridge or a dental implant, but it is a substance that can be applied to a tooth and then shaped to restore the look and function of that tooth with ease.

At Vita Dental our entire staff always put you and your family first. We collectively aspire to provide you with a stress-free and state-of-the-art experience. We hope you leave our office feeling confident in your smile and your relationship with our team. Our goal at Vita Dental is to consistently provide a quality dental experience while you are comfortable in our calming environment. Are You a Candidate for Dental Bonding?

If you look at yourself in the mirror and have become tired of looking at that gap between your teeth, or if you are feeling self-conscious about the unfortunate crack in your tooth, then dental bonding can quickly and easily improve the look of your teeth and restore your healthy smile. In fact, the longer you put off having any cracks or chips treated, the more risk you pose for the damaged tooth. Cracks will spread, and chips can easily lead to decay.

If you do delay and decay or further damage occurs, then more invasive procedures will be necessary. It is in your best interests to seek treatment for your cracked or chipped teeth as soon as possible. Dental bonding is also suitable for children, teenagers, and adults of all ages.

The Benefits of Dental Bonding

There are quite a few benefits to having dental bonding applied to your teeth. The most obvious one is that it will instantly improve the look of your teeth and smile. This can come as a great relief to you if you indeed struggle with cracked or chipped teeth and just cannot wait to get your teeth fixed. Another benefit is that the dental bonding can keep the tooth healthy longer. When a tooth is cracked, it is more susceptible to bacteria, infection, and further damage.

Restoring the shape of a cracked or chipped tooth also means that some of the physical strength can be restored as well when it comes to biting and chewing. Another benefit of bonding is that it is immediate. Most dental bonding treatments can be completed in one visit at Vita Dental, meaning you will not have to walk around with chipped or cracked teeth any longer. You can always have your dental bonding touched up at future dental visits if you notice the bonding is wearing away, or if it needs to be replaced.

The Dental Bonding Procedure

There will always be an examination and an evaluation first. If we decide together to apply dental bonding as a restorative treatment, it is fast and easy. We will first clean and dry the tooth that needs to be repaired. Our team will apply a cleanser and then an adhesive to prep the tooth to receive the dental bonding material.

This prep work allows for the dental bonding resin to bond to the enamel surface of the tooth. The bonding resin is made up of several components, including a glue-like substance that will adhere the resin to the surface of the tooth. We can apply it in layers until the desired thickness is achieved. We have the ability to sculpt, mold and shape the putty-like resin to form it like a thin extension of your natural tooth, either covering a crack, evening out a chip, or diminishing a gap.

The compound will be colored to match your natural teeth, and then the resin is set using a special blue light that will harden the compound quickly. Your resurfaced tooth will be cleaned, polished, and trimmed to fit your bite and smile. The entire process may take an hour or two, depending on the number of teeth that need to be bonded and the severity of the damage to the tooth.

Long Lasting Aesthetic Improvement

Dental bonding is not a permanent restoration, but it can last a long time. When you care for it properly, and when you visit Vita Dental every six months for regular exams and touch-ups, dental bonding can last for many years. Proper care is necessary because dental bonding can begin to discolor over time. If you do not take care of your bonded teeth you will see discoloration start to occur. If you have severely damaged teeth, the dental bonding might need to be replaced with another type of solution or dental appliance later.

Comparing Dental Bonding Versus Veneers

Dental bonding is designed for use in simple cosmetic improvements that do not impact the function of your teeth or gums in any way. Chips, cracks, and gaps are the most common issues that dental bonding can correct. The application of the bonding is different from veneers. Veneers are made of layered glass ceramics and are created outside of our office in a dental lab. The thin veneer is designed to look and feel like your real teeth, and it will adhere to the front surface of your tooth with a bonded cement.
