A dental crown is a long-established and successful dental treatment that has improved the oral health for many patients. Often referred to as a “cap,” because the crown literally fits over the natural tooth and covers it, a crown will repair a tooth that has been damaged.
What are dental crowns?
Dental crowns are permanent tooth-shaped coverings designed to restore your damaged tooth to its natural shape, strength, size, and color. A crown is placed over the entire visible part of the tooth and secured to it with dental cement. There are a variety of colors available to match the color of your other teeth, so the crown will blend in with your mouth and few will know it’s a fake tooth. The crown restores the tooth’s strength and visual appearance.
Who needs a dental crown?
Dental crowns are used to protect and strengthen teeth that have become weak as a result of decay or trauma/injury. They can prevent cracked teeth from further damage, and restore broken teeth to full function and beauty. Crowns are placed after our patients receive root canals, in order to protect their teeth from infection and future breakage.
At Vita Dental, when we design a crown, we always aim to create a product that looks wonderful and feels completely natural. Our crowns are crafted with the highest quality porcelain materials. Porcelain is the ideal material for creating crowns because we can use it to match the color and translucence of your natural teeth. People you meet won’t even be able to tell you have a dental crown. We make each crown custom for each patient using molds and impressions of your natural teeth. Our crowns can be used in various corrective procedures, including implant dentistry and root canals.
The dental crown procedure at our office is:
Step One: Before your crown procedure, we will design your permanent crown using molds and impressions of your natural teeth in a state-of-the-art dental laboratory.
Step Two: Before your crown is placed, we will prepare your tooth to provide the optimal fit.
Step Three: While your permanent crown is being crafted, we may place a temporary crown for you to wear before your next appointment.
Step Four: Once your high quality permanent crown is finished, Dr. Eibling will remove the temporary crown and place your permanent crown.
